Clubs & Activities

Clubs & Activities

Our students are often thirsty for more. Just because the final bell rings doesn’t mean we are finished. Extracurricular programming provides exciting opportunities for our students to try new activities or delve deeper into areas of passion.

Get involved. Have fun!

Students participate in, lead, and even create school clubs based on their unique interests and talents. Our ever-changing lists of clubs and activities across campus offers students abundant opportunities to explore their passions and discover new ones, and to connect and have fun with peers and faculty who share similar interests.

This opportunity is open to students who enjoy math, like working in teams, and want to continue growing as mathematicians.

In the spring, 5th and 6th grade Math Team members have the chance to represent Balls Creek in the district-wide Catawba Counts Competition, where they collaborate and compete with peers from across the county.

Robotics Club logo featuring gears, atoms, and the club's name.

On our Grade 2-3 Robotics Team and Grade 4-6 Robotics Team students have exciting opportunities to learn how to design, build, and program Lego robots throughout the season.

During the first half of the season, students learn basic programming, as well as advanced programming of sensors to achieve a specific task.  The students use both the Lego Mindstorms robot and the Sphero robot during this time.

The county competition is held in the winter months and has different challenges on competition boards for the students to gain points.  During the second half of the season, students use the design process to build and program Sumobots to compete with each other.  These robots are programmed beforehand and are run autonomously during two different competitions in the spring season.
